Update: Capital Improvement Projects

May 23, 2022

Dear Gananda Families and Community,

As the weather turns nicer, we are anxious to take advantage of some of the new upgrades from our Capital Improvement Project and we know you are too. As such, we wanted to take a moment to update you on the status of the projects:

Middle School Tennis/Pickleball Courts:

The site is still under construction and is controlled by our contractor.  At this time, no one is allowed on the courts until the facility has been completed. Weather permitting, the court surface is scheduled to be installed this week, May 23-27.  It has been a cat and mouse game with the weather as we need to have at least five consecutive days of 60 degree temperatures for the surface to set properly. The night air and boomerang temperatures we have been experiencing proved troublesome for this installation. Once this court is sprayed and painted, the fence will be dropped and properly fitted. Then the nets and basketball hoops will be installed and the construction road will be removed. Unfortunately, we are required to stay out of the area until final inspection and approval. Once final approval is given, we will alert the community for use of the new courts.

Air Conditioning Units at High and Middle Schools:

The air conditioning at the high school has been turned on and is operational with the replacement of the chiller. The new heating and cooling system at the middle school has also been completed and is also fully operational. We anticipate using these to their full potential in the coming weeks to keep our students and staff comfortable.

Old District Office:

The old district office, or Annex as it was referred to, has been completely demolished. Work on this area has been completed at this time.

All roofing projects have been completed in all school buildings. At this time, the oldest roofs in the district are the middle school metal roofs which were installed in 2008.

Air Handler at Elementary Pool:

The installation of the new air handler at the elementary pool has been completed. We anticipate having lessons and open swims available this summer. Stay tuned for additional information coming soon.

In addition to the completion of the current Capital Improvement Projects, we have also completed our Energy Performance Contract (EPC) with the now fully operational solar panels. The solar panels went online with the power company during the week of May 9, 2022. Since then, we have already seen additional savings from what we had planned. With the state aid for the project and the additional savings, the solar panels have exceeded expectations and allow us to offset the cost associated with their installation.

We just recently completed our 5-year building condition survey and will need to begin planning for the future. Please be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities in the near future for our Facilities Committee. Some items on the future improvement lists include: Varsity Baseball Fields, parking and traffic flow for the middle and high schools, and network closets throughout the district.

If you have any questions about the recent projects, please contact myself or our Director of Facilities, Lori Brown at [email protected].
