Planning for the Reopening of Schools for the Fall of 2020 is proving to be a monumentous task. While we work through the guidelines put forth by the department of health and the NYS Department of Education, we continue to keep the safety of our students and staff in the forefront of every discussion, while also working to ensure we can continue educating all students for success. Below are current updates regarding planning for the 2020-2021 school year:
Virtual Parent Forums: Reopening Schools in Fall 2020
As we continue planning for the 2020-2021 school year by reviewing guidance from NY State, we would like to obtain more information from parents regarding thoughts about reopening school this Fall. We have scheduled five virtual forums to discuss reopening in person for students. Specifically, we want to listen to concerns about classrooms, schedules, transportation, class size, masking, social distancing and other factors that will impact safety with in-person schooling. No decisions have been made as of yet, but lots of discussions have been had. To participate in one of the forums, you will need to register in advance by clicking on the registration link next to the event date you would prefer below (or by clicking on the event on our events calendar). Pre-registration is required as an added security measure.

Phase 1 Reopening Plan: Return to Work/Facility Use
Gananda Central School District is currently in Phase 1 of reopening which allows for staff only to be present on school grounds and limited access to facilities. The Phase 1 Reopening Safety Plan is included in the link below the bottom of this page.
At this time the athletic fields and the track are open for the community to use while adhering to social distancing guidelines. Unfortunately the playground, pool and basketball courts remain closed at this time.
Fall School Athletics for 2020: Update to Start of Season
On Thursday, July 16, the NY Department of Education released guidance that school athletics will not start on August 24th as originally hoped. In response, the NYS Public High School Athletic Association has proposed several options for restarting school athletics. The first opportunity for a return will be September 21st, not August 24th. In the event that the September 21 plan is not allowed, there are additional alternative plans being considered. One alternative plan would be for fall sports to move to January. The Winter sports season would be January 4 to March 13, the Fall sports season would be March 1 to May 8, and the Spring sports season would be April 5 to June 12th. Assuming that we will be able to hold our Fall season starting September 21, parents will need to log into the Family ID site starting August 21. A link to a letter from our Athletic Director is included below.
